Recomiendo ampliamente Sol Latino.

Volvería a Sol Latino.

Definitivamente recomiendo So Latino.

I really enjoyed my time with Sol Latino and my teacher Magdony. My teacher was brilliant - very engaging and understanding when I was struggling! The host family were lovely. I was glad to find other students staying with the family otherwise the experience may have been quite lonely and isolating.

I stayed in Xela for one week to improve my Spanish. The communication with the school went through Josue. He was brilliant and always responded quickly and helpful! I enjoyed learning Spanish with Sury (unfortunately only for 1 day) and 4 days with Mario. Both were really dedicated and the 5 hours each day went by quickly. Also my homestay was nice and the food excellent. I learned a lot during my 1 week there and it made me more confident speaking. I participated in the additional activities which I recommend everyone to do!

2 things I want to point out though:
As I have taken lessons before in Tulum, México, I had the opportunity to compare ways of teaching. Therefore I want to point out or suggest to offer the students learning material for their level. I had to write down a looot of grammar rules because there was no booklet or anything. And that took a lot of my time that I could have practiced with the teacher. Also I found that there could be more playful ways to practice especially grammar or conversation. Also to keep focus on what the student has to learn. I sometimes felt the need to ask to please correct me more if I make mistakes, especially because I wanted to learn how to use the tenses correctly.

Over all a great experience!

I studied one week in Sol Latino Spanish School. I enjoyed studies with my teacher Mirna. Sol Latino is great school to study, you can either stay in the hostel or hostfamily like I did. Living with hostefamily was great opportunity to see Guatemalan livingstyle. I recommend Sol Latino Spanish School if you came to Xela. They answered me the same day when I did the booking. And also helped me with everything I needed.

Thank you Sol Spanish school! I started with a week but decided to extend my studies with them since I’m amazed about how quickly I’ve been able to learn with them. This place is like a family with very kind and warm teachers who are also very professional. Special thanks to maestro Mario who has taught me in a very interesting way, making learning very easy and fascinating.

From hola and gracias I have come a long way… so I’m very very grateful to have found this place and really recommend them from my own experience.

I had an incredible experience studying at Sol Latino, and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning and/or refining their Spanish. If you are already an intermediate speaker, I recommend asking to study with Mario if he is available; he is a marvelous teacher and an enjoyable person to spend many hours face to face speaking with. Thanks to everyone at Sol Latino—I was made to feel incredibly welcome, and I certainly learned a ton.

Great language school in Xela. They were able to get me a teacher who could help me with technical language so I can translate for work. The teachers really know what they're doing, and do it well.

Went here for 4 weeks in the summer of 2016. It was a great experience! My teacher Gilma was so kind and engaging and would always go on trips with me out into the city. Orlando also gave great tours of the countryside to students willing to go on an adventure. Overall a cool way to learn Spanish and get to see Guate. Pretty easy to find some English-speaking friends at the school too so there's people to hang out with. Would definitely encourage more people to check it out if you can.

Great value, location, and homestay. My teacher was decent, but sometimes seemed like she was phoning it in. No materials, no board. Activities weren't well attended, but the tour guide Mario is excellent. My friends there all liked their teachers and had a good experience, but I might try somewhere different next time.

We really enjoyed our time in Xela! The school is great because you have private lessons and you can benefit so much from them! Our teacher Catalina was very qualified, fun and she took us on many trips to the city to talk and immerse ourselves in the local culture, which we would not have been able to do without her! Thank you Catalina, we have learned so much from you!

Our stay would certainly not have been so great if we had not had such a wonderful, warm and talkative host family! So if you are planning a stay, you should ask if you can go to Elisabeth López! Elisabeth also cooks fantastically and everything is very clean!

The school also offers activities that are a good addition to everyday school life. And the location is perfect!

I only took a week of classes with this school. Based on prev exp from studying spanish in Colombia, the curriculum was based on conversation and repitition and a bit of grammar.

Sol Latino has more focus on grammar, rules and application in spanish. It is a small school with daily activities. Great staff.

As part of my cultural immersion experience, I took Spanish courses here for over three months. What makes Sol Latino different from any other school is that they provide one on one classes. This allows the teachers to really hone in on your weaknesses to refine your language skills. The teachers are also extremely knowledgeable not only about the language itself but also about the culture and different relevant sociopolitical issues. I never found myself bored even though we had three-hour classes. Asides from that, the school also hosts a myriad of events each day of the week. These activities ranged from salsa classes, visits to famous places such as Almolonga and Fuentes Georgina, and even exciting ping-pong tournaments.

TL;DR: I absolutely loved my experience and would definitely recommend Sol Latino to anyone.

One of the best experiences i had in Guatemala without a doubt! The school hosts a bunch of activities every week which make it a super social environment and a great place to make new friends! The enviroment of the school is warm and relaxing and the teachers and admin are nice too!

I highly recommend Sol Latino for learners at any level! The majority of instructors at this school are experienced and effective and if you happen to be placed with someone who isn't a good fit, the school makes it very easy to switch. My sister and I came to Guatemala with no prior knowledge of Spanish and our teachers did a great job of tailoring their lessons to our particular needs and interests. During my time in Guatemala I studied in Xela, Panajachel, and Antigua- I'd definitely recommend Xela as the best place to study for students who are serious about learning Spanish. Far fewer people speak English there and it's a kind, charming city where you'll feel welcomed and comfortable practicing your new speaking skills out on the town.

I am here to write a fair review. I liked some things and I didn't like some things. I can tell you that these things were discussed with other students and we all feel similarly about them.

Sol Latino staff and directors are very kind people. Rineke is who you communicate with about administrative issues and host family issues. She has mixed reviews by students partly because she does not work in the office. To me, she was kind and helpful.

The host family situations are not very solid. This is not necessarily the school 's fault and it's the nature of the business. Nothing is standardized. Some students ate paella, and some students will never see meat. Some barely saw tomatoes or cucumbers. Some had the internet for free and some had to pay the family to use internet. Some people had to pay for their own toilet paper. Some family never spoke to students. Can I suggest the school to standardize the quality of the host family?

The teachers are hit or miss. This is same at other schools. Bad ones did not know how to teach, distracted and disappeared 20 minutes at a time saying she is going to the bathroom. About 30% of the students had complaints about their teachers. The rest were happy with the quality of the class.

The biggest issue I saw at Sol Latino was money. My suggestion to you is to make reservations one week at a time. If you tell them that you will be there for eight weeks, they will ask you to pay for the next eight weeks on Day 1. A lot of schools in town will let you pay weekly and let you decide if you want to continue. Don't be afraid that you will have nowhere to go after one week because there are so many options.

Take a lot of US dollars. Their prices are based on US dollars. In Xela you can only draw Quetzales from ATM despite the $$ option you may see. The school's conversion rate is $1=7.8Q. This to me is pure poop. The actual conversion rate was $1=7.34Q. The last time it was 7.8Q was over 3 years ago. Does this sound like a fair business practice to you?

Whenever they have to calculate your tuition, especially if they have to give you discounts, prorated prices, they made a lot of mistakes. The mistakes were always in their favor for some reason. Always ask for written breakdowns of the numbers.

This is a good school because it's not huge and it's not tiny. It's good to have other students around. My advice to you, is to speak up and don't back down if you are told no. When it's time to pay and calculations are involved, smile and watch it like a hawk. Good luck.
