Cooperativa Spanish School

Muy agradable. Pasé 2 semanas aquí, quedándome con una familia amigable. 3 comidas saludables al día. Amplia habitación luminosa con acceso a la azotea y vistas al lago. Las lecciones se llevan a cabo en cabañas abiertas en un jardín de extraordinaria belleza. Profesor paciente y amigable que me ayuda gentilmente a adquirir teoría y práctica. Ha sido una gran combinación de estar en un entorno atractivo y estudiar seriamente. Programa hecho por Taylor adaptado a mi nivel. Muy recomendable.

Tuve una experiencia increíble aprendiendo español. Todos los profesores fueron maravillosos y muy acogedores.

Nos lo pasamos genial en la Escuela Cooperativa y aprendimos muchísimo en las seis semanas que pasamos estudiando allí. Se lo recomendaría absolutamente a todos.
Tuvimos lecciones individuales que se llevan a cabo en pequeñas y encantadoras cabañas en el hermoso jardín, atendidas diariamente por un jardinero muy amable. Mi maestra (Karen) fue excelente, muy receptiva a adaptar las lecciones a las cosas que quería aprender. Tenía una pequeña cantidad de español y comenzamos cada lección con conversaciones, una excelente manera de practicar hablar y escuchar que realmente fortaleció mi confianza para hablar fuera de la escuela.y en la casa de familia, y utilizar lo que había aprendido cada día.
Todas las personas que trabajan en la escuela son súper amigables, amables y relajadas, muy complacientes y flexibles, lo que garantiza que aprovechemos al máximo nuestro tiempo con ellos. Hay un ambiente encantador y relajado entre todos los profesores y estudiantes y actividades extracurriculares gratuitas cada semana. ¡Después de 6 semanas de salsa, tenemos algunos movimientos!
La escuela es la única cooperativa en San Pedro y está claro que la donación y los alimentos entregados a los necesitados de la comunidad marcan una diferencia real.
También recomendaría optar por una casa de familia, fantástica para tu español y para sentirte parte de la amigable comunidad de San Pedro, ¡y ahora tenemos una segunda familia en Guatemala!

¡Me encantó mi tiempo en esta escuela! Si no estás seguro de dónde estudiar en Guatemala, te recomendaría 100% esta escuela si quieres una enseñanza estructurada, un entorno hermoso y actividades que te ayuden a conocer a otros estudiantes. También estuve en una escuela en Antigua y elegiría esta escuela y San Pedro por mucho. Es una escuela de tamaño perfecto (probablemente unos 15 estudiantes mientras estuve allí), por lo que no es una línea de producción de lecciones de español como algunas escuelas en Antigua. Mi maestra (María) era claramente una maestra con mucha experiencia y desarrolló los mejores métodos para ayudarme a aprender. San Pedro también es un entorno fantástico con el lago. Realmente me sentí parte de la escuela y al vivir con una familia anfitriona también me sentí parte de la comunidad. La estancia en familia fue brillante. Mi madre (Lola) me hizo sentir muy bienvenida y me permitió experimentar su forma de vida invitándome a acompañarla en las actividades cotidianas, como ir al mercado, a la iglesia y ayudar con la cocina. En general, tuve una experiencia muy auténtica en la escuela donde mi español pasó de tener una capacidad de hablar limitada a poder tener una conversación en dos semanas.

Quedé muy satisfecho con la educación y los métodos de enseñanza que recibí en Cooperativa. Su solidaridad con la sociedad también es muy valiosa. Yo lo recomendaria a todo el mundo.

ME ENCANTÓ mi tiempo aquí. Mi maestra, Rachel, fue absolutamente fantástica, mi familia anfitriona fue muy cálida y las actividades organizadas por la escuela fueron muy divertidas. Definitivamente espero volver para otro curso aquí algún día <3

¡Mi lugar favorito en el mundo para estudiar! El plan de estudios está muy bien estructurado y los profesores son muy amables, atentos y bien informados. La escuela funciona como una cooperativa y realiza proyectos importantes para la comunidad. Mi familia es increíble. ¡Tan amable y generoso! ¡Qué gran experiencia! ¡Te lo recomiendo mucho!

My trip in San Pedro, Guatemala was incredible thanks to the Cooperative. The teachers; the beautiful & relaxing site; the activities; and of course the families, for these reasons, I think the Cooperative is the best place to learn Spanish in San Pedro!

What a great experience was this trip. Muchas gracias to the Cooperative, the teachers, and the families, I'll never forget these two weeks spent in San Pedro. I can't wait to come back someday!

I was looking for a first-time Spanish immersion experience and found the Cooperativa Spanish School based on reviews. The reviews were not wrong! The school was beautiful - small out buildings for students and teachers to use for lessons surrounding a gorgeous garden. The school provided activities in the afternoons for those who wanted them, including a weaving demonstration by local Mayan weavers and a chocolate making demonstration by a local chocolate company. There was also salsa dancing and a cooking class the week we were there for those who wanted them. My one-on-one instructor was patient and knowledgeable, and I had the opportunity to steer the lessons towards my interests and needs. We started the week off with a test so that she could see my Spanish level, and we went from there. Arranging the visit for my two friends and myself from the states via email went smoothly – Antonio was always quick to respond to emails and provide lots of information. The cost for activities and lessons was more than fair. My friends and I opted not to have a homestay, but the students we spoke with at the school who did had only positive things to say.

The town itself, San Pedro Laguna, is now one of my favorite places. I loved exploring it on foot in the afternoons, trying out my burgeoning Spanish on locals who were more than happy to help. There are lovely restaurants, coffee shops, and local businesses to visit. It’s very easy to get around the town of San Pedro by Tuk Tuk. The town felt very safe - streets lit up with lots of friendly people on them at all times. The Mayan culture is thriving in San Pedro, and my friends and I took backstrap weaving lessons in the afternoons on two different days. It was fascinating to learn more about the Mayan language and people by talking with the weavers. The lake San Pedro borders is enormous and beautiful, surrounded by volcanoes. You can take boats to the other towns on the lake. The boat rides are short, and boats leave often. I can’t recommend the Cooperativa School experience highly enough!

I spent 5 weeks at Cooperativa and today was my last day. I would highly recommend this place for spanish learning, because:

- it is a community owned and operated school, 3/4 administrators i met Griselda/Antonio/Luis who run the place are responsible and friendly.
- there are a ton of thoughtful elements to make your time and learning special and authentic (e.g. Delicious local snacks midday thru the class), local activities organized when there are sufficient students (chocolate making, football with instructors, salsa classes, making local foods)
- the school invests in developing all its instructors and some have decades of experience, the instructors are approachable and lovely (thank you Violeta for your warmth and kindness!).
- the grounds and open design classrooms (with roof when raining) are sooo very special, there are a ton of flowers, bushes shaped in different birds animals and thanks to the gardener Delphino, it is a very calming and inspirational place to learn.
- i would personally recommend a minimum of 2 weeks to really advance in spanish (though many students also come for 1 week), i found 5 weeks a bit long for me, 4 weeks would have been perfect.
- Tip for students- please make sure to communicate your learning needs to your instructor so they can meet them (i.e. If you want them to correct your spoken spanish ruthlessly while you are learning, your preferred use of the time, if you want to focus on conversation or advance on grammar).
- The instructors generally do focus on grammar and have worksheets/white boards for teaching, and may use fun stories with interesting topics to read/discuss with you. Some instructors give students a placement test of first day to gauge where to start.
- I learned a lot about the local culture from my teacher Clarita and she made classes fun, we had to re-visit some of my expectations for learning throughout the classes and she was receptive to my feedback which I appreciated.)
- I spent 2 weeks living with a local family the school connected me with (great experience though my room was a bit noisy), and then 3 weeks at a hotel, which was a good blend for me.

Overall would highly recommend, it is a great place to learn, cost effective and a professional school.

We feel so lucky we got a chance to study at Cooperativa Spanish School for 3 weeks.

We learned so much and made wonderful friends and memories with best teachers, host family and ‘amigos’ we could ever ask for.

We were super beginner in Spanish (never took a class before, only picked up some words in our trip) so we started from very basic things like alphabets and numbers.

Our maestro Antonio was an amazing teacher - always patient, kind and great at teaching!

thanks to him, our spanish improved so much and now we can enjoy communicating with local people much better!

School facility is so beautiful and has one of the world’s most beautiful gardens with a great view of the lake.

Moreover they provide delicious and healthy snacks such as Tamalitos and Yucas in breaks in the morning:)

School activities were also well organized and always so much fun! We participated in Kayaking, Coffee tour, Salsa Dance, Cooking and Soccer.

Last but not least, home stay experience made so much positive impact for our 3 week of learning spanish. We were able to practice conversations and learned so much from this wonderful host family who was always kind, open and caring.

Amazing teachers, beautiful setting and free tasty coffee all day! I attended classes while my children were with another teacher and all teaching was of a really high standard and so flexible with the kids and their different learning styles. Really can’t recommend the school highly enough.

I had a hugely enjoyable two weeks at Cooperativa Spanish School. As a complete beginner the teaching from Perla was superb and my home stay with Luís and Anita’s family was a brilliant experience. The after-class cultural activities were really fun too, I would highly recommend.

I would recommend cooperativa to everyone, I had an amazing experience with my teacher Ligia and in my homestay with Ana María. My Spanish improved greatly and I had many things cleared up for me after studying at schools not as great as Cooperativa. If you want to learn Spanish in a beautiful environment, come here!

It's a lovely place, perfect to learn Spanish in a beautiful setting, with really nice and competent teachers! Plus, they put you in contact with a guatemalan family, to truly be immersed in their culture, helps a lot to improve the language, and they are super lovely as well! Would 100% recommend!

I really enjoyed my two weeks at Cooperativa Spanish School. Especially the classes with Clarita were so nice and lovely. It's also really helpful to stay with a host family to practice your learned skills. Definitely recommend this school.

Belle Expérience dans cette école où j'ai pris une semaine de virus d'espagnol. Professeur personnel, à l'écoute, patiente. Cela permet de progresser considérablement en espagnol.
Le lieu (l'école) est magnifique: calme, vert, reposant. Durant la semaine, plusieurs activités sont proposées: cours de salsa, cours de cuisine, démonstration de chocolat.
Durant ma semaine, j'ai été hébergée dans une famille, expérience que je recommande vivement! Quoi de plus efficace pour apprendre une langue que d'être au contact des locaux.
